The game follows the adventures of Adol, a young red-headed swordsman who washes ashore on the island of Esteria after his ship is wrecked by the Vail of Storms. Esteria, isolated from the rest of the world, is plagued by monsters, and Adol must slay these creatures, find items, and uncover the secrets of the 6 books of Ys to defeat the evil Dark Fact. In Book II, Adol is transported to the floating island of Ys, where he must confront new challenges and defeat the evil Dahm.
