Barbarian is a 3D fighting video game developed by Saffire, published by Titus Interactive, and distributed in Europe by Avalon Interactive. Released in North America in 2002 and in Europe in December 2003, the game is also known as Warrior Blade: Rastan vs. Barbarian in Japan. The game is set in the land of Barbaria, where a dark and evil force, led by the evil wizard Zaugg, has spread chaos. Ten barbarian characters, each with their own storyline and motivations, vie to defeat Zaugg and become the hero of prophecy. The gameplay features fully three-dimensional, multi-level arenas such as castles, sewers, and shipwrecks, where players can engage in combat using a variety of attacks, including magical and rune attacks. Players can also pick up and use environmental objects as weapons. The game includes various modes such as Quest mode, Versus mode, and Training mode, allowing for diverse gameplay experiences. While the game received mixed reviews, it was praised for its visuals, sound, and the inclusion of elements appealing to both casual and experienced fighting game players. However, it was criticized for its awkward movement mechanics. The game is available on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube, although the GameCube version was canceled in some regions. Currently, the game holds a niche interest among retro gaming enthusiasts but does not have significant market demand or historical significance beyond its release period.
