MDK 2: Armageddon is a third-person shooter and action-adventure game developed by BioWare and published by Interplay Entertainment. Initially released for the Dreamcast in March 2000, it was later ported to Windows in May 2000 and to the PlayStation 2 in March 2001. The game is a sequel to the 1997 game MDK and continues the story immediately after the events of the first game. Players control three unique characters: Kurt Hectic, Dr. Fluke Hawkins, and Max, each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and gameplay styles. Kurt's levels involve run-and-gun shooting and use of his 'ribbon chute' for navigation, Max's levels focus on high-impact firepower, and Dr. Hawkins' levels emphasize puzzle-solving and platforming. The game's storyline revolves around the trio's battle against an alien invasion, led by the alien Shwang Shwing and ultimately Emperor Zizzy Ballooba. MDK 2: Armageddon received generally positive reviews for its varied gameplay, creative character designs, and improved level design compared to the original. Critics praised the game's graphics, sound effects, and sense of humor, although some noted the high difficulty level and frustrating platforming sections. The PlayStation 2 version, titled MDK 2: Armageddon, included adjustable difficulty levels, manual saving, and other gameplay tweaks. Despite being released over two decades ago, MDK 2 remains a notable title in the action-adventure genre for its innovative character switching mechanic and engaging gameplay.
