Sky Odyssey, known in Japan as The Sky Odyssey, is a flight simulation game developed by Cross and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. Released in 2000 in North America and 2001 internationally, the game follows an Indiana Jones-style storyline where the player character flies through several areas of a fictional world to collect artifacts and pieces of a map. The primary game mode, Adventure Mode, focuses on reaching the hidden Tower of Maximus located on one of four uncharted islands. Players control 10 different aircraft, including real-world planes, prototypes, and fictional ones, and must navigate complex missions through extreme terrain and adverse weather conditions. The game features various modes such as Target Mode, Sky Canvas Mode, Training Mode, and Free Flight Mode, adding to its versatility. Despite some graphical imperfections, Sky Odyssey received positive reviews from critics like IGN and GameSpot for its variety of aircraft, challenging missions, and realistic weather effects. The game won several awards, including 'Simulation Game of 2000' and was a runner-up for 'Overall PS2 Game of the Year.' Although it may have flown under the radar at its release, Sky Odyssey is now recognized as an underrated gem in the flight simulation genre, still appreciated by enthusiasts for its unique blend of adventure and flight mechanics.
