Darksiders III is an action-adventure game released in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and later in 2021 for the Nintendo Switch. The game follows Fury, one of the Four Horsemen, as she is tasked by the Council to banish the Seven Deadly Sins that roam a post-apocalyptic Earth. Players control Fury as she navigates this shattered world, observed by a Watcher and requested by one of the Makers to save what’s left of humanity. The game features strategic combat, heavily influenced by the Souls franchise, with two combat modes: a default mode that requires full commitment to actions and a classic mode that reverses some of these restrictions for a more traditional Darksiders experience. Key features include the use of Hollows, which are abilities that allow Fury to evolve into different forms, granting new ways to traverse and interact with the world. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, with Metacritic scores ranging from 58 to 70 depending on the platform, the game has been praised for its ambitious level design, interesting puzzles, and satisfying combat mechanics. Notable review scores include 8/10 from Destructoid and Game Informer. Although the game faced technical issues, it has still managed to sell well, with 71,000 units sold on Steam in its first week, and THQ Nordic has confirmed that it has made back its development and marketing budget.
