Turok: Evolution is a first-person shooter video game developed by Acclaim Studios Austin and published by Acclaim Entertainment, released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube, with a Windows port released in 2003 for the European market. The game serves as a prequel to Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and is set in the Lost Lands, a realm where dinosaurs and reptilian humanoids, known as the Sleg, coexist. The story follows Tal'Set, who is transported from the Old West to the Lost Lands, where he must accept the mantle of Turok to save the River Village and ultimately defeat the Sleg leader, Lord Tyrannus, and his ally, Captain Bruckner. The gameplay features a mix of first-person shooter mechanics and third-person flight segments, where players can control pterosaurs to navigate the environment. The game includes a variety of weapons, such as shotguns, bows, rocket launchers, and plasma cannons, and offers a large, expansive world to explore with multiple chapters and sections. The multiplayer mode supports up to four players on GameCube and Xbox, and two players on PS2, with at least 13 multiplayer maps. Turok: Evolution received 'mixed or average' reviews according to Metacritic, with scores ranging from 61 to 72 across different platforms. Despite its mixed reception, the game is notable for its ambitious scope and the introduction of new gameplay mechanics to the series. However, it is not particularly popular or in high demand today, but it remains a part of the Turok franchise's history.
