Putty Squad is a platformer game developed by System 3 and published by Maximum Games and Ocean Software. Originally released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), it has since been remade and released in 2013 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, Xbox Live Arcade, and Microsoft Windows. A later version, Super Putty Squad, was released for the Nintendo Switch in November 2017. In the game, players control an amorphous blue blob named Putty, tasked with rescuing his fellow putties from imprisonment. Putty can stretch, flatten, inflate, and morph to navigate through levels, collect stars to upgrade his abilities, and combat enemies. The original versions received positive reviews, with the Amiga version earning a 'Format Gold' from Amiga Format and 91% from Amiga Power. However, the 2013 remake received mixed reviews, scoring 38/100 on Metacritic, although the 3DS version was more favorably received. Despite the mixed reception of the remake, Putty Squad remains a nostalgic classic, appreciated for its unique gameplay mechanics and retro charm. It continues to be sought after by collectors and retro gaming enthusiasts.
