Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a first-person shooter game released in 2019 for Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and later for Stadia in November 2019. Developed by MachineGames and Arkane Lyon, and published by Bethesda Softworks, the game is a spin-off of the Wolfenstein series. The story takes place in 1980, twenty years after the events of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, where BJ Blazkowicz's twin daughters, Jess and Soph, must find and rescue their missing father in Nazi-occupied Paris. Players control either Jessie or Zofia from a first-person perspective, with an optional cooperative multiplayer mode allowing two players to complete the game together.
The gameplay features a hub world system, allowing players to complete missions in a non-linear order, and includes character and weapon upgrades, as well as the use of powered armor suits. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the game was praised for its challenging combat encounters and light RPG elements that enhance the solid gunplay. Review scores varied, with Metacritic scores ranging from 63 to 69 across different platforms, and notable scores including 8/10 from GameSpot and 79/100 from PC Gamer.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood became the second-best-selling retail game in the UK shortly after its release and saw moderate sales in Japan. While it did not recapture the same acclaim as its predecessors, it remains a notable entry in the Wolfenstein series for its cooperative gameplay and action-packed mechanics.
